MMPA offers after-school pay-what-you-can group classes in fall, winter, and spring at our space in West Seattle! Classes include Drama Club, Visual Arts, D&D Campaigns and more.

About Our Group Classes

MMPA offers classes all throughout the school year in various arts disciplines, from Dance to Songwriting to Dungeons and Dragons campaigns! Our latest class offerings & pricing are listed in the calendar below.
MMPA believes strongly that finances should never be a barrier to a child’s experience with the arts, so all classes are offered on a sliding scale. To let us know that you need to opt in to our “pay what you can” program, please indicate the price point that works best for your family in the appropriate section of the class sign up form.

Broadway Dance Prep

Ages 12-17
Wednesdays 5:45-6:45
Teacher: TBA

This is an energetic class designed for dancers who want to build strong musical theatre technique. Students will learn foundational skills in jazz, theatre dance, and storytelling through movement. Each class includes a full warm-up, across-the-floor work, and choreography inspired by iconic Broadway shows. Dancers will gain strength, confidence, and performance skills to help them shine on stage.

Broadway Songbook

Grades 2-6
Mondays 4:15-5:15 pm

Learn how to sing in the style of Broadway belt classic tunes and become a star of the Broadway stage! Students in Broadway Songbook will explore beloved songs from classic and contemporary Broadway musicals. Through guided vocal warm-ups and fun group numbers, singers will build confidence and strengthen their musical theatre technique. Students will also learn storytelling through song, focusing on expression, character, and clear lyrics.

Pop Vocal

Ages 12-18
Mondays 5:30-6:30 pm

Singers will develop their voices through exercises, stage presence training, and solo or group song work. We’ll focus on projection, tone, and storytelling through music. Students will gain performance confidence and polish their musical skills. Open to singers ready to take their performance to the next level!

Beatles Singalong

Ages 3-6 years
Tuesdays 1:45-2:45 pm

This class uses classic Beatles songs to introduce kids to the basics of rhythm, song structure, lyrics, and melody. Students will sing along to favorites like “Yellow Submarine,” “Here Comes the Sun,” and “All You Need Is Love,” while jamming out with rhythm sticks, tambourines, and shakers.

We’ll also explore different kinds of instruments and how they make sound-just like the Beatles did in their own musical experiments-hopefully inspiring a new generation of young musicians to learn more and make music as they grow up! All levels are welcome, but this class is designed with complete beginners in mind.

Improv for Beginners

Grades 2-5
Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm

This new course introduces young students to playful acting through imagination, movement, and simple storytelling. Using fun games and guided activities, children learn to listen, take turns, and work together. Students are encouraged to use their creativity, make brave choices, and have fun supporting their classmates. The workshop helps build cooperation and joy in creative play.

Intro to Acting

Grades K-3rd
Tuesdays 4:15-5:15 pm

Students will explore acting through scene work, character choices, and collaborative storytelling. Using scripts and partner scenes, they’ll learn how to bring moments to life with emotion, intention, and clear storytelling. This hands-on approach strengthens confidence, focus, and ensemble skills. Designed for students who love to perform, imagine, and dive into the world of theatre.

Campfire Singalong

Ages 3-5
Mondays 1:45-2:45 pm

This class uses classic campfire sing-alongs and folk songs to teach kids about the basics of rhythm, song structure, lyrics, and melody. Kids can jam out with rhythm sticks, tambourines, and shakers to songs like “Bear Hunt”, “The Ants Go Marching”, “B-I-N-G-O”, and many more.

We will also talk about different kinds of instruments and how they make sound; hopefully inspiring a new generation of musicians to learn more and make music as they grow up! All levels are welcome, but this class is designed with complete beginners in mind.

Behind-the-Scenes (Costumes/Props/Design)

Ages 12-17
Wednesday 5:45-6:45 pm

Students will step behind the curtain to explore the creative world of backstage theatre. Each week, they’ll dive into hands-on activities like designing props, creating simple costumes, experimenting with set pieces, and imagining how lighting and sound help tell a story. Through guided projects, kids will learn how every design choice supports the characters and brings a production to life. This class encourages problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork as students work together to build their own theatrical visions.

Ukulele 101

Grades 2nd-6th
Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm

Come learn ukulele with us! Whether you’ve played before or have never picked one up, our group ukulele class gives students the opportunity to learn an instrument that they can take with them anytime, anywhere. Basic knowledge of the instrument is introduced while learning to tune, strum, read tablature and read chord charts.

Students will leave being able to pick out simple, familiar melodies and play a few 3 or 4 chord songs. On the final day of class, students will have the opportunity to share what they’ve learned with a studio showcase for family and friends!

Acting and Scene Study

Grades 2-5th
Wednesdays 3:15-4:15 pm

This course invites students to dive deeper into character, storytelling, and performance technique. Through games, ensemble activities, and partnered scenes, students learn how to listen, respond, and make strong acting choices. The class focuses on building skills in voice, movement, and understanding script context. Students practice collaborating with scene partners while developing confidence and creativity. By the end, they will bring short scenes to life with clarity, teamwork, and expressive performance skills.

Improv Workshop 101

Ages 12-18
Tuesdays 6:45-7:45 pm

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of spontaneous storytelling, quick thinking, and collaborative play. Through engaging games and scene prompts, participants learn to listen, support their partners, and trust their instincts. The workshop builds confidence, creativity, and a strong sense of ensemble.

Musical Theatre Revue

Ages 12-18
Thursdays 6:45-7:45 pm

This course invites performers to explore iconic songs and scenes from beloved Broadway shows. Students develop skills in singing, acting, and ensemble performance while working on polished musical numbers. The class builds confidence, stage presence, and collaborative artistry as they prepare pieces to share.

Music Rhythm

Grades 1st-4th
Tuesdays 3:00-4:00 pm

This course introduces students to beat, tempo, and musical patterns through hands-on percussion play. Using drums, shakers, body rhythm, and group activities, students learn how to listen, follow, and create rhythms together. The class builds coordination, teamwork, and musical confidence in a fun, high-energy environment.

Intro to Music

Grades K-3
Wednesdays 2:00-3:00 pm

Students will explore the world of music through singing, movement, rhythm games, and listening activities. Using fun songs and interactive exercises, children will learn basic musical concepts like beat, tempo, and dynamics while expressing themselves creatively. This hands-on class builds confidence, coordination, and a love of music in a playful and supportive environment. Designed for students who enjoy making music, moving their bodies, and having fun learning together.

Music and Movement

Ages 3-5 years
Wednesdays 12:45 - 1:45

This course is an energetic class where students explore rhythm, song, and creative expression. Students will sing, dance, and use their imaginations to bring music to life. The class introduces foundational skills in coordination, musicality, and body awareness through fun, age-appropriate activities. With plenty of play and creativity, children build confidence while discovering the joy of moving to music.

Broadway Dance Party

Grades K-3
Thursdays 4:15-5:15pm

Get ready to bust a move!
In this high-energy dance class, students will learn musical theatre dance routines set to music from hit Broadway shows like Newsies, Matilda, Frozen, and more! The class will learn proper warm-up techniques, important foundations for jazz, ballet, and theatre dance, and best practices for keeping your body healthy and strong while dancing – and we’ll have a great time while doing it! Students will prepare a number of routines to be performed during our final class.

Storytelling and Song

Grades K-3
Fridays 3:00-4:00 pm

This class invites young performers to explore imagination through singing, creative drama, and playful narrative activities. Students learn to express characters and emotions while using their voices with confidence and joy. This class builds early performance skills through fun stories, musical games, and interactive group activities.

Jazz Workshop

Ages 14-18
Fridays 7:00-8:00 pm

Dick Cady’s Jazz Workshop gives high school dancers the opportunity to train with a master teacher in classic and contemporary jazz technique. Students will refine their strength, musicality, and style through targeted warm-ups, across-the-floor work, and dynamic choreography. This workshop is designed to challenge dancers, elevate their technique, and inspire confidence in their performance.
