Basic knowledge of the instrument is introduced while learning to tune, strum, read tablature and read chord charts.

Students will leave being able to pick out simple, familiar melodies and play a few 3 or 4 chord songs. On the final day of class, students will have the opportunity to share what they’ve learned with a studio showcase for family and friends!

Theatre Behind the Scenes

Grades 3-5

The actors may be front and center, but there is so much more to putting on an amazing stage show than what’s in front of the curtain. A huge team of artists is required in order to pull off a play or a musical, including set and lighting designers, directors, choreographers, musicians, costume designers, and more.

If you’ve ever wanted to know more about what goes on behind the scenes of a theatre production, this is the camp for you! Through interactive lessons and hands-on activities, students will learn about the many creative jobs and opportunities there are in the field of theatre.

Star Wars Play Creation

In addition to writing and acting out their stories, students will make props, put together costumes, and create set pieces for their original play. On the final day of camp, the students will present their final performances to a limited audience of family and friends.

Improv Workshop

Do you like being kept on your toes? Are you a quick thinker looking for a fun challenge? Then this just might the workshop for you!

Improvisation is an acting technique that is especially spontaneous and creative; there are no lines and no plans! Anything can happen in improv. Join this camp to learn more about how to think outside the box, step out of your comfort zone, and have a ton of fun doing it!

Music Theory 101

Grades K-2

Have you ever wanted to know why that one song you heard on the radio is so catchy? Why is classical music so special? What makes a piece of music sound happy or sad? All of that and more has to do with music theory, the building blocks of music!

In this camp, students will learn about everything from notes and scales to the difference between minor and major keys, and how musicians create rhythms and melodies. These skills are important for aspiring musicians and singers of all ages.

Music in the Movies

Grades 3-5

One of the things that make movies larger than life is the grand effect that music can have on a scene. Think of some of the most iconic movie scores: Star Wars, The Lion King, The Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Caribbean, and many more. What would those movies be without that stunning music? They’d be very different, that’s for sure.

In this camp, we will explore the history of music in film from the Silent Era all the way through to today. We will discuss influential composers in the field and hopefully inspire the next generation of musicians to make some iconic scores of their own!

Songwriting / Beatmaking

Grades 6-8

Mode wants to hear your songs! In this weekly workshop, we will encourage students to explore self-expression through music and help them develop the skills they need to write lyrics, melody, and chord progressions.

Working both solo and as a group, our instructor will create short and long term songwriting goals for each student while building a lasting skill and gaining confidence to go home and write your own. Popular songs will be broken down as examples and used to create original compositions.

Each student is encouraged to bring their own songwriting instrument to class if they like. Students will have the opportunity to perform their original songs for friends and family on the final day of class.
